Unishippers Franchise Spotlight: Lauryn & Ryan Gleason, Triple G Logistics
Ryan and Lauryn Gleason are a husband-and-wife team proving that family franchises can thrive when built on shared values, vision and determination. Together, they launched their Unishippers franchise, turning their family investment into a growing business that provides freedom, flexibility and fulfillment.
For them, franchising is more than a career move — it's a family business opportunity that blends purpose with profit. While Ryan leans on his background in finance, Lauryn brings her energy as a teacher and her dream of creating something bigger. One day, she hopes to open her own franchise, dedicating earnings to women's health initiatives, ensuring that success is shared beyond their home.
Learn more about Lauryn and Ryan and how their husband-and-wife franchise has quickly become the investment opportunity they had been seeking all along.
You're married. What made you decide to launch a Unishippers franchise business together?
Ryan: This is really our first official business together. We have real estate investments, but this is a full-time, Monday-through-Friday business that we're building side by side. At first, the idea was simply diversification — we wanted smart family investments outside of our W-2 jobs. But we started feeling uncertainty with our employment, particularly with my federal government finance role. So, we began exploring alternatives. Honestly, the plan wasn't "let's start a husband-and-wife business," but that's exactly what happened — and it's been the best thing for us.
Lauryn: I was a teacher for nine years before stepping away for health reasons, and that transition really opened the door for something new. The flexibility of a franchise business felt like the right fit. When Ryan mentioned the Unishippers concept, I immediately loved it — it wasn't just sales, it was helping other businesses grow. That felt genuine to me.
Ryan: I pitched a few other franchise opportunities to Lauryn before, but Unishippers just clicked. Their support and systems gave us the confidence to hit the ground running.
Lauryn: And now it's a true family franchise. We even named it Triple G Logistics after the two of us and our daughter. She's in fourth grade, and whether she's shredding papers or learning about finances, she's part of the team. It's become a real family business opportunity, and we love it.
Tell us a little about your Unishippers franchise. When did you start and where are you located?
Ryan: We started the process around December 2024 and officially launched our Unishippers franchise in June. We are based in central Massachusetts. What really sold us on this franchise opportunity was the ability to serve clients nationwide. Having access to national territories is huge. It means we can build a schedule that works for our family. If we want to shift hours and work with clients on Pacific Time, we can. That flexibility has been incredible.
Lauryn: For me, one of the best parts is the freedom to be present for our daughter. I love being able to drop her off at school and then come home and dive into the business. That's something I missed out on before. This truly is a family investment built around our goals because we get to work side by side and cheer each other on every day.
Ryan: I didn't come from a sales background, so I was nervous at first. But Lauryn, with her teaching background, jumped right in, and her energy pushed me forward. We feed off each other's momentum, and that's pretty cool!
Many of the best Unishippers franchises are owned by people without logistics experience. Do you use your backgrounds in finance and education now that you own a logistics franchise?
Lauryn: Definitely. Teaching taught me patience and the ability to connect with all kinds of people. Every student was different, and it's the same with clients — everyone has unique shipping needs. Being able to listen, adapt and explain things clearly has been a huge advantage for me.
Ryan: For me, my finance background has been valuable when it comes to budgeting and managing the numbers for our franchise. I also had a short stint as a warehouse manager in the federal government, and my dad was a truck driver, so I knew some of the terms and lingo. But honestly, we didn't come in with logistics experience — and that was intimidating at first. We're still learning every day and Unishippers is right there with us, helping us evolve.
Lauryn: The truth is, with the right training and effort, almost anyone can succeed in this kind of franchise opportunity.
Ryan: And the support from Unishippers has been incredible. Whether it's QuickBooks help or sales coaching, the team is there day or night.
Lauryn: It feels like we're running our own business, but with a cheerleading squad behind us. That encouragement makes all the difference.
Ultimately, what made you decide Unishippers was the right place for a husband-and-wife franchise investment?
Ryan: Honestly, at first, I thought it was too good to be true — like it had to be a scam. I was researching all kinds of franchise opportunities — restaurants, food service, you name it — and when I came across freight brokering, it wasn't something I had ever considered. But the more I learned, the more intrigued I became. When I spoke with the Unishippers team, my first reaction was, "Where's the catch?" And there isn't one. It really is an unbelievable franchise opportunity.
Lauryn: What really convinced me was the people. When we were still on the fence, we were given a list of Unishippers franchise owners, and everyone was so open and supportive — even though we hadn't joined, or even made a decision, yet. It felt like joining a big extended family.
Ryan: To test it, we cold-called other franchise owners on the extended list of all owners. And we got the same glowing Unishippers reviews: "Do it. We wish we'd started sooner. Best decision we ever made." After hearing that over and over, we knew this was real.
Lauryn: Everyone agreed that it's a lot of work up front, but worth it. And that's us. We're hard workers. The difference now is all that effort helps build our franchise. Seeing that immediate impact is so fulfilling.
Ryan: Exactly. Every extra hour we put in pays off for us and our family. That's what makes this such a powerful family business opportunity.
How did Unishippers help you get your franchise up and running?
Lauryn: From the start, Unishippers made everything clear. They laid out step-by-step instructions — almost like a teacher wrote it — so the paperwork and setup felt manageable. Then came franchise training in Dallas, which was amazing, and we learned so much. We spent a week learning alongside other new owners, building friendships, and going through everything from sales to bookkeeping. Even though I had no sales experience, they broke it down in a way that made it feel doable.
Ryan: What I appreciate is that it's truly our franchise business. They hand you the tools — a real "business in a box"— but it's up to you to put in the sweat and make it grow. That balance of structure and freedom really sold me.
Lauryn: After training, we had weekly coaching calls, plus ongoing check-ins with our cohort of new owners. That support system has been huge.
Ryan: And then there's the UMS team. They help with logistics tasks behind the scenes, so we can focus on building relationships and growing sales. In fact, when a customer threw us a last-minute "rescue" shipment, UMS backed us up, and that client is now one of our biggest accounts.
Lauryn: Knowing we're never alone — even while running our own logistics franchise — makes all the difference.
What would you tell someone who's on the fence about moving forward with a Unishippers franchise opportunity?
Ryan: First, I'd ask why they're hesitant. If it's about resources or time, then maybe it's just not the right stage of their life. But if you do have the ability to commit, then I'd say you're already starting too late — you should've jumped in years ago. We both spent so much energy working our government and teaching jobs, and now I wish all that effort had been poured into our own family business opportunity sooner. When you put your hours and resources into something that's truly yours, the payoff is incredible.
Lauryn: Time is definitely important because you need the time — and our timing was perfect. We have one daughter, and balancing family with work is a priority. That means sometimes making calls after she's in bed or during off-hours. But that's the beauty of a husband and wife franchise like this — you can build it around your life if you're willing to put in the work.
Ryan: Think of it as a "business in a box." The system is there, but you have to water it with sweat. If you put in the effort, it grows.
Lauryn: And once you get rolling, it's exciting. Landing new clients, hitting milestones — it all feels like progress. If you're ready to commit, it's absolutely worth it.
What's the culture like at Unishippers, and what's your relationship with other franchise owners?
Ryan: Culture was one of Lauryn's top concerns when we were exploring family investment opportunities. We knew we'd be creating our own culture at Triple G Logistics, but we also wanted to know: what's the culture of the larger organization? Honestly, it's hard to describe how positive the franchise culture is. Everyone we've met has been kind, energetic and so willing to help.
Lauryn: Exactly. We haven't met a single person who wasn't supportive. People go out of their way to offer advice, and they actually want you to reach out again. That openness makes such a difference when you're new.
Ryan: Some of the franchise owners we cold called before even signing have become weekly contacts. We give updates, ask questions and lean on their experience. And one day, I want to be that same resource for someone else. The culture really feels like a snowball — owners helping owners, passing knowledge forward.
Lauryn: The key is not being afraid to ask questions. Everyone's learning, and nobody makes you feel small for not knowing something. That's what makes Unishippers stand out — it's not just a logistics franchise, it's a community.
You're still relatively new, but have you seen the benefits of work-life balance?
Ryan: Absolutely. Work-life balance has been one of the biggest rewards. Today was our daughter's first day of school. We got to take pictures, drop her off, pick her up and celebrate with ice cream. That freedom is priceless. At the end of the day, our franchise business exists because of our family, and having the flexibility to put family first is everything.
Lauryn: For me, stepping away from teaching was health related. I still deal with medical challenges, so having the ability to create my own schedule has been life changing. So, I do need to rest and take care of myself more than the average individual. And this job allows me to do that. I can work a few hours, take time to rest, meditate, relax, calm myself down, feel a little better, come back and do some more. If I'm not feeling well, Ryan steps in, and we support each other.
Ryan: And unlike our old W-2 jobs, we don't have to wait for time-off approval. If Lauryn has a doctor's appointment, we just go. That flexibility is one of the best parts of this franchise opportunity. This is our family business, and we're going to take any appointment we can, and it's great that we have the ability to do so.
Lauryn: Honestly, I couldn't handle being in a classroom all day right now, and the fact that I can still be working is such a relief. I can contribute, adapt around my health and still build something meaningful with Ryan.
What's your favorite part about owning a husband-and-wife franchise so far?
Lauryn: Working with my husband. I know it's not for everyone, but for us, it's the best part. I love being side by side, building something together every single day.
Ryan: Same here. We're constantly cheering each other on. If she's struggling, I'll step in. If I'm working really hard, she tells me to take a break. That kind of partnership is powerful. We're working toward the same goals and always looking out for one another. In a typical job, no one really cares if you need a break. But here, we care about each other first. So, like Lauryn said, that is the best part.
What are your plans for the future? Have you thought about starting more franchises?
Ryan: Absolutely. Our goal is to keep growing, adding a new franchise business every two to three years. The model makes sense for us, and it's something we can continue to build on as a long-term family investment.
Lauryn: And for me, I'd love to eventually launch one of my own franchises. Maybe in five or six years, I want to create a franchise that's not just about business success, but about giving back. Specifically, I'd like to dedicate a portion of the earnings to support science in the areas of women's reproductive health and chronic illness. That's something deeply personal to me and being able to merge my passion with our work would be incredibly meaningful.
Ryan: So, branching out and growing, growing, growing. That's our plan.
